Sarah Hafner Quilts
Adire cloth: I am such a nut for this cloth, my friend Susan — who lives in new york, said she knew a place that sold it, and we (John and I) drove into the city in 102 degree heat, and came home empty handed. The shop was still covered with dust from 9/11 almost a year later. That was a sad day. We could see the rubble, and although it was still curtained off, the sadness was there. In the city, and in the owner of the shop. I did buy some wonderful black soap, which isn’t black at all, but a shade of gray. This got me into my black cake days, but I don’t make black cake anymore— and it really is black.

If you want Adire you must inquire here: http://home.clara.net/adire/ and tell the owner (Duncan Clarke) that you would give almost anything for it. He will send his pickers in Africa out to the market in the very early morning. And you will have a friend for life.  At the time that we drove to New York, Duncan was out of Ibadadun, and I had to have it.
