Short Stories

by Sarah Hafner

When I wrote The Elements of Style, a novel, my agent told me I had to have sex in it, and I had no idea how to do that. I wrote short stories for James Haining at Salt Lick Press, because he said he loved my voice. I started just cranking these out, because they seemed to be his “drug of choice,” (see Wonder Boys) even though James was 3,000 miles away—we were good friends.

Brian Clark ended up with them, and sometimes did a good job of editing and sometimes not, we have remained friends for over ten years.
